Lemerand Center of Excellence

About the Lemerand Center of Excellence

The Lemerand Center of Excellence (LCE) was established in 2023 as a collaboration between FBH Community, Volusia County Schools, and Daytona State College to offer innovative tutoring and enrichment programs for elementary students. Building on FBH Community’s experience sponsoring tutoring programs since 2007, LCE provides structured academic support, enrichment activities, and wrap-around services that help students grow and thrive. The statistics below represent results from the 2024 to 2025 academic year and reflect the positive impact this work has on student achievement.

Academic Support and Learning Enrichment

LCE meets Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and Wednesday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Students receive engaging instruction in Language Arts and Math using proven learning approaches like whole group, small group, and individualized instruction. We incorporate a variety of curriculum resources and educational platforms to support student growth at every level. These tools provide engaging practice in both reading and math, offer individualized learning pathways, and reinforce key academic skills through interactive lessons, games, and standards-aligned activities.

Language Arts and Math Growth Through Experiential Learning

At the Lemerand Center of Excellence, students strengthen both reading and math skills through a blend of targeted instruction and experiential learning built around active engagement and real-world connections. In language arts, students practice reading comprehension, vocabulary, and written expression in ways that make stories and texts come alive. In math, students build confidence with concepts such as number sense, problem solving, and grade-level applications through meaningful practice and interactive resources.

Experiential learning enhances these core academic areas by giving students opportunities to explore ideas, apply what they learn, and reflect on their progress. Studies show that hands-on and real-world activities improve retention, understanding, and academic performance across subjects by helping students connect concepts to practical situations. This approach encourages active thinking, collaboration, and deeper engagement in their learning process.

Students experience growth not just by completing structured lessons, but by applying their skills in collaborative activities, problem-solving tasks, and dynamic learning experiences that make education meaningful and engaging.

Program Commitment and Expectations

LCE takes its mission seriously and works with students and families to ensure consistency and success. Students and parents are encouraged to fully engage with the program to help the child thrive. While LCE is a supportive learning environment, consistent attendance and respectful behavior are essential to making meaningful progress.
