DeLand Middle’s TeenZone program supports students who benefit from additional guidance in academics, behavior, and decision-making. Through project-based learning and career-focused activities, students develop teamwork, accountability, and leadership skills. The program creates a structured and supportive environment that helps students build confidence and positive school habits. TeenZone plays an important role in strengthening school engagement and fostering personal growth.

Galaxy Middle (Boys)

The Galaxy Middle TeenZone Boys program focuses on leadership development, personal responsibility, and academic growth. Students participate in structured book studies, physical activities, and discussions that promote self-awareness, teamwork, and goal setting. The program supports students in building positive habits that translate into improved engagement at school. TeenZone provides a safe, supportive space where students can grow as leaders and learners.

Galaxy Middle (Girls)

The Galaxy Middle TeenZone Girls program empowers students through leadership development, life skills instruction, and academic support. Activities focus on self-confidence, goal setting, financial literacy, and social responsibility. Students are encouraged to reflect, collaborate, and build skills that prepare them for future success. The program creates a nurturing environment that helps students grow academically and personally.

New Smyrna Beach Middle

The New Smyrna Beach Middle TeenZone program provides comprehensive support for students facing housing instability and other challenges. Students receive academic help, social-emotional learning, and enrichment experiences in a caring and inclusive environment. The program incorporates hands-on activities, family engagement events, and educational outings to broaden student experiences. TeenZone serves as a vital support system that strengthens school connection and student well-being. 

Program Goals: Goal 1: ELA - 80% of students will demonstrate a learning gain from 24-25 PM1 to 25-26 PM3. Goal 2: Math - 80% of students will demonstrate a learning gain from 24-25 PM1 to 25-26 PM3. Goal 3: Students will have no more than 5 unexcused absences during the 25-26 school year. Goal 4: TeenZone members will have no more than 2 discipline referrals during the 25-26 school year. Planned Activities: Read aloud, pending FOCUS permissions from all students to determine book list. Preferably books that have a movie attached :-) Science kits/activities. 20 minutes each session of homework help. Each session will include an ELA portion, Math portion, general homework help and an SEL lesson. The ELA/Math/Sel are often in the form of games, trivia, etc. Family Thanksgiving Meal, Christmas Santa Shop. Trip to Museum Arts & Sciences (target December). Trip with Deland Middle for Eco walk/beach cleanup (target early spring), FBH sponsored outings/activities Target Students: Students identified as homeless and then after that teacher/admin/counselor recommendations. Summary: They strictly recruit students experiencing homelessness and recommendations from guidance. Mr. and Mrs. Mallace run a fabolusous program and put their all into it with Mrs. Mallace having recently been awarded sponsor of the year for the 2024-2025 school year.

Atlantic High School

Atlantic High’s TeenZone program provides targeted academic support for ninth-grade students with a strong focus on English Language Arts. Students strengthen reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and fluency through guided novel studies and structured tutoring. The program emphasizes critical thinking, note-taking strategies, and thoughtful discussion to help students engage more deeply with texts. By building strong literacy habits early in high school, the program supports academic confidence and long-term success across all subject areas. 

Program Goals: Students will achieve proficiency or higher on ELA FAST PM3 - They will improve reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar skills. Take clear, effective notes during reading and lessons - Students will develop effective note-taking strategies to help retain and organize key information from texts and lessons. Increase Reading Fluency - Students will increase their reading fluency to improve comprehension and reading stamina. Students will improve WPM by at least 20% over 3 months and increase comprehension quiz scores (80% or higher).
